Review: Ink by Sarah Jane Davis

INK
By S J Davis
Genre: paranormal YA

“It’s a good day to die.” My mother holds my arm fiercely. “But as you grieve for me, listen for the voices. Then, you must get the ink.”

***
Sparrow stumbles between two worlds – light and dark, love and hate, what is real and what is in her mind. When her mother dies on the Reservation, Sparrow’s world is shadowed with anger and narrowed by pain. The voices arrive, but are they real?  And how can a tattoo make her stronger?

Mateo arrives to guard Sparrow, but from whom? Layne holds on to Sparrow, but why? As the voices grow stronger and her pain expands, Sparrow finds that the shadows in the corner and the voices we fear most are the ones inside ourselves.

My Thoughts:
This is really a beautiful book.  Sparrow, is Native, and after her mother's death she goes to live with her Aunt. This book is really a beautiful story of Sparrow trying to come to terms with her mom's death and dealing with the guilt she feels.  She feels like it's her fault for the accident that took her moms life.

Her journey takes her deep into her own mind and soul and to try to help her along the way is her spirit guide Mateo and her boyfriend.  I really connected with this novel, I am not Native, but, I had many of the same feelings and guilt after my father passed away.  This is a fantastic book and I recommend it to all.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!!  Enjoy!!!!

All Hallow's Eve: The One Night it is Bad to be Good
People are being martyred but not for their faith. Instead the deaths are part of a serial killer’s sick game as he chooses his victim by their name… then kills them in that Saint’s grisly manner.

My Thoughts:
This book was just about the most perfect book I could have read to finish off my Halloween this year.  I had to get up and turn the dam lights on cause it scared the bejesus out of me that bad or good lol I'm really not sure which one, but, which ever one it was I am soooo glad I read this book.  I was asked to read/review this novel and really what capture my interest right away was the cover art for the book, then it continued with the blurb for the book, that had me even more interested.

This was an extremely well written novel, I love Cristyn's writing style, she created a story that was believable right to the end and had left me with my mouth hung open thinking to myself I totally did not see that coming. Not only does she create a modern day believable story it will keep you guessing and just when you think you have it all figured out and you know who the killer is, oh no way, you will never believe who the killer is, I gasped when I read who it was.

This is a book that is action packed right till the very end, mystery, and lots of suspense.  The details Cristyn uses to describe everything is fantastic, she draws you right into the story along with her, it was almost like I was right there inside the story.  I highly recommend this book, I can't wait for you all to read this awesome, incredible book, but remember.............leave the lights on when you do. Enjoy!!!! Happy Halloween!!!!!!!

About the Author:

I find catching serial killers (on paper of course), well... fun.
Do you really need to know anything more about me?
Ok, fine, I am also a veterinarian (for real, not just in my own head like the serial killer thing) and I find the thought of having a romance with a homo chiroptera pretty hot.
See? I told you, you didn't want to know anything else!

Review: Give Me by L.K. Rigel

Give Me: a fairy tale

Edited by Debra L. Martin
Cover by Robin Ludwig Design

A young witch with a good heart. Two lovers in mortal danger. A spell that ends in disaster.

Lilith Evergreen lives in the California desert, an ordinary woman until her fiancé returns from London with a ring he bought from a street vendor. When Lilith puts it on she dreams of a green land that's anything but desert, a tree at cliff's edge, a ruined castle, and a handsome prince.

Then she discovers that it's all real.

When Lilith visits the ruins of Tintagos Castle, she discovers a world of magic and love - and its dark side when she's entangled in the remnants of an ancient spell gone bad. From the moment Lilith sees Cade Bausiney, she's overwhelmed with desire for him. Cade is drawn to Lilith too - but their feelings might only be sparked by dark and dangerous magic.

Lilith and Cade must break the old spell or be forever possessed by spirits who've waited a millennium to consummate their love.
I am really starting to love these small books, this one is 64 pages long, I so wished it had been longer and I could really see it going so much farther.  This was a beautiful love story about Lilith and Cade. I really like how their story spanned over so much time, thousands of years.  I'm not going to go into to much detail, because for such a small book if I get to into it, it will give it away and you really have to read this one for yourself, it's such a beautiful story. The back and forth sometimes has the capability of confusing a reader, but the author did such an amazing job at telling this story you are not confused one bit, I love her writing style it flows perfectly. I recommend this story to all and really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.  Enjoy!!!!

SHADA

SHADA Book Blurb:

Joined by three of her closest friends, Ember treks deep into the woods of northwestern Wisconsin, seeking the advice of a dead man on how to save the living. But sometimes, the dead have their own agenda.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book, I kind of thought at first it might be just a little to young YA for me, but, all of a sudden it really just sucked me right in. Shada and her close group of 3-friends, Willow, Ember and Jeni. After the death of Ember's Grandfather Normie she has never really been the same, and her Grandmother has slowly slipped into dementia and she had to be admitted into an elderly home to be taken care of.  The group then decides to hold a seience to see if Ember can talk to her Grandfather to help out her Grandmother.

It really is a well written story, I liked the characters the author has developed, they fit nicely together.  The writing style is very smooth and flows right along not leaving out any details. I can't wait to read the second book in the series. It looks like the next one will be a good one. I recommend this book to all and hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.  Enjoy!!!!

Perfect Strangers Review by Rebecca Sinclair

Gabrielle Carelton is one of Queen Elizabeth’s most devoted ladies-in-waiting. But her loyalty is put to the test when Her Majesty commands her to marry Scotsman Collin Douglas. When Gabrielle is kidnapped by Collin’s twin brother, not even Good Queen Bess can save her. Dubbed the Black Douglas, devilishly handsome Connor is known throughout the land for his magnificent feats of strength and cunning. But now he is in need of an heir. An English bride will bring peace to the warring nations — and give him the son he craves. What he doesn’t expect is a woman as passionate as she is proud … and a desire that knows no boundaries. Set against the pageantry and savage splendor of 16th-century England and Scotland, here is the story of a man and a woman who begin as enemies and strangers — and find a love that will triumph against all odds.

My Thoughts:
I was asked to read/review this book and since Historical Romance is one of my favorite generes to read besides Paranormal, I jumped at the chance.  I have to say the cover art for the book is absolutely beautiful, makes you want to dive right into the story.

I have to say this is a Historical Romance at it's finest, It has everything you want in a Historical Romance, I love reading from the 16th Century England/Scotland. Gabrielle Carelton is on her way to meet Collin Douglas her betrothed, but, on her journey she is kidnapped by a man named Black Douglas.  Black Douglas has a reputation of being one of the most fierce men with our mercy for anyone, but, he just happens to also be Collin Douglas's twin brother.

I am not going to spill all the details and if I go to deep I will spoil it for you and I don't want to do that, but I will say this is an absolute MUST READ, if you like Historical Romance then you will love this book, I love the two main characters Rebecca has built, very strong, strong willed characters, Gabrielle is a "sturdy" woman who has lots of self doubts and more worries than a lady should have, Collin, so different from his brother.  In the beginning of the story of two people that were strangers, enemies in fact, only to be into a love story you will think about long after this book is done.

I myself being not a perfectly shaped lady, truly loved this story more as Gabrielle was described the same, and to be recognized for her inner beauty is more than what's on the outside, when a story is written like this I feel it hits more readers as it makes the character more real, more identifiable with.  It has everything you want in a book, romance, action packed, the right amount of danger, twists and turns that made me hold my breath and it was full of humour,  just the right amount of everything that makes a good book great.

I hope you will all pick up your copy and enjoy it as much as I did.  Enjoy!!!!

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this small book that packed a huge punch.  Sasha and her friend Angela head off to a Halloween party for a night of fun and fantasies. Sasha and Angela meet Dante and his twin brother, both whom are Vampires, yup real life Vampires, Sasha has always wanted to meet a real one, but Angela not so much.

I really enjoyed reading this book, the story line was great and I loved Sasha character, very open minded, passionate and sweet at the same time.  Dante just exudes sex appeal and the way he's described just makes you want to go find him.  His twin brother was just as hot but in a  more mysterious way. Over all is was a great book, 68-pages in length, and at the end left you wanting more, I really hope another book is in store, I would love to read more about Sasha and Dante, they have an amazing chemistry together.

I hope you all will grab your copy, fill up the tub, light some candles and sit back and enjoy, I really did ;)

HALLOWEEN FANTASIES

Chapter Excerpt

Dante leaned into his brother’s ear. “You see, it’s a perfect package deal. Two beautiful females, just as I had described.”
A ginger-haired woman, in a witch costume, waved at them from across the room.
Trevor inclined his head, and a smile played across his face. “And which of the two beauties is mine for the taking?”
“You’re into costumes and games, right? Why not take the little witch for a ride on your broom?” Dante snickered. “She seems like she could be fun.”
“And that leaves the dominatrix for you?”
“Vampire huntress,” Dante corrected.
Trevor’s eyes lit up with amusement. “Oh, that is perfect.” He burst into laughter. “Mr. No Games wants to play with the vampire hunter.”
“I thought you would be amused by that.”
“Did she bring a stake?” Trevor clutched his stomach as he roared, unable to hold back the fit of laughter. “Or perhaps some holy water?” Tears welled in the corners of his eyes. He swiped them away with a quick brush of his hand.
“Go on then, get it all out of your system.” Dante didn’t bother hiding the aggravation in his voice. He didn’t care for his brother’s taunting, but he would endure it if it meant getting his way. He needed to separate Sasha from her friend if he wanted to have her for the evening.
Trevor finally stopped laughing and straightened his face. “You know I prefer to pick my own prey, but seeing how you might be getting into the spirit of the evening, I’ll go along with this… on one condition.”
Dante arched an eyebrow at his brother. “What condition?”
“I want you to play a little game with me. Let’s make this a challenge.  No mind control. Tonight we work on charm and skill alone.”
Dante groaned. “I think that ridiculous Prince costume has gone to your head.”
Trevor smiled, flashing his brilliant white teeth. “I’m playing my part. It’s Halloween, a time to be someone or something different.”
“But I do not want to be Prince Charming. I like being a vampire.”
“That’s my point. You aren’t getting into the spirit of the evening. I want you to try and be something different tonight. Don’t just be a vampire. Be charming and have fun wooing a woman the old-fashioned way.” He folded his arms in front of his chest. “Unless you aren’t up to the challenge.”
His brother’s taunting set his teeth on edge. “You think I’m not capable of taking a woman’s vein and getting her in bed without mind control?” he asked with a snarl.
“I think you’re out of touch, yes.” Trevor matched Dante’s stern look. “Now, do you accept my challenge, or not?”
Dante turned to look back at the two women sitting at the bar. “I have no doubt I could have her within the hour… on skill alone.” He focused on Sasha, inhaling a deep breath as his eyes traveled the length of her body. He puffed his chest arrogantly. “She will be eating out of the palm of my hand, begging me to take her.”
“Well then, Casanova, shall we go meet our ladies?” Trevor held his hand out, pointing to the women.
Dante nodded, and the two brothers slowly made their way through the crowd toward the bar.
As they approached, Dante’s eyes never left Sasha’s form, drinking in her tanned skin and lean body. He admired the way the leather pants clung to her long legs and the sensuous curve of her backside as she sat, perched on the bar stool. He imagined himself bending her over the side of a bed, kneading the soft flesh of her ass as he drove into her. His cock jumped to attention at the thought, filling his pants, pulling the denim taut over his waist.
“We meet again,” Dante said as they arrived at the bar.
Sasha looked up. Her long black hair, tied into a high ponytail, swung away from her neck as she turned to face him, revealing her tempting neckline.
His eyes zeroed in on her pulse. It beat with a tantalizing rhythm, calling to him. He enjoyed the way her body was already responding. This should be all too easy. He smiled, flashing his fangs at her.
“Oh… hi… uh, hello,” Sasha stammered, as if trying to find the right words to say.
Angela swallowed a gulp of her green beverage. “I see you found your brother.” She beamed a smile at him.
“Yes.” Dante cleared his throat.  “Allow me to introduce Prince… er… Trevor.” He stepped aside and let his brother make his introduction.
Like a true gentleman, Trevor bowed low and then looked up to the two women. “A pleasure to meet you both.” He stood and took hold of Angela’s hand and brought it gently to his lips. “Especially you. Enchante, Madam witch.”
Angela giggled girlishly, and a smile spread wide across her lips. “Oh. You are really playing the part tonight, aren’t you, Prince… Trevor, was it?”
“You can call me Charming if that fits better.” He winked.
“I just might,” Angela said.
“Would you care to dance, Milady?”
“How could I resist?” Angela jumped to her feet.
Dante let out an exasperated sigh and then turned away from the garish couple to focus on his prize—Sasha. “Is the offer to join you still open?”
Sasha smiled and pointed to the recently vacated stool next to her. “Sure. Sorry I had to leave back there. I wasn’t trying to be rude. I just can’t seem to stand up very long. These shoes…”
Oh, I can think of a few ways to keep you off of your feet. Dante grinned. “It’s quite all right. We can finish our conversation here. Where did we leave off?”
Sasha took a quick sip from her drink. “I was telling you I would stake you if you tried to bite me.” She laughed and set the empty glass back on the counter. Her foot bobbed to the rhythm of the drum and bass beat.
“Ah yes. I did want to take a little nibble.” He flashed his fangs at her and winked. “Even with the threat of being staked, it might be worth it. You look so tempting in that costume.”
A red flush hit her cheeks. Dante enjoyed the darkening of her skin and the rapid pulse that accompanied it.
Sasha looked down at the ground for a moment, her eyelashes fluttering as she blinked. “And I thought your bother was Prince Charming.”
“You find me charming?” Dante laughed. “And I thought I was being a cocky rogue.”
Sasha cocked her head sideways. “The best rogues are the most charming.”
“Then I guess I am doing my job well.” He smiled wide and licked the tips of his fangs.
“You are entirely too sure of yourself.” She appeared as if she was trying to hide her excited expression, but it was revealed by a twinkle flashing in her pale blue eyes.
Feisty, I like that. Dante’s eyes roamed the length of her body, stopping at the small broken stick in her belt loops. The corner of his mouth rose in a crooked grin. “I’m intrigued by your choice of costume, Ms. Huntress.”
“It wasn’t my first choice, but it works.” She casually brushed her hair off her shoulder, allowing her ponytail to hang down her back. “It looks like you put a lot of effort into yours. Those teeth look so real and sharp.”
Dante was momentarily caught off guard watching the thump of her pulse beating just beneath the surface of her bare olive-skinned neck. He shook his head in a vain attempt to shake away thoughts of sampling her tempting flesh. “Forget about my teeth. Let me order you another drink, and you can tell me more about you.”

Chapter Excerpt
A feeling of accomplishment washed through Dante. Success. He savored the moment, allowing himself to fall deeply into her pale blue eyes. She was his for the taking, and he would enjoy taking his time ravaging her.
His cock throbbed with need at the thought of it. The sensual caress of her body against his while they danced had been such a delightful torture. Her intense pheromones had been teasing his baser instincts, drawing out his need not only for sex, but also for the taste of her essence. Now he would soon be able to slake his burning desires.
Careful not to seem too eager and risk putting her off, he smiled and asked calmly, “Are you sure this is what you want?”
Her teeth still bit into her lip as she looked up into his eyes. He could sense she was battling with herself, but the scent of her pheromones assured him of her desire. Sasha’s scent was like sweet honeysuckle, a smell so pure and alluring he was tempted to take her right there on the dance floor. He couldn’t wait to sample just a taste of her essence. He absently licked his lips, awaiting her answer.
A moment passed in silence before she smiled and nodded at him. “You’re right. This is a night for fantasies. Let’s go.”
He bent his head to capture her mouth once more before allowing her to lead him off the dance floor.
They passed by the bar on their way out, and Sasha grabbed a shot and knocked it back quickly. She scrunched up her face as she swallowed. “A little more liquid courage,” she said and then pulled him out of the ballroom.
Excitement —and maybe a little of that liquid courage she’d just downed— seemed to have washed away all worry. Like a switch had been flicked on, she changed from timid to wild. She was on fire as they stepped into the empty elevator. Her hands roamed all over his body, as if she needed to feel every indentation of his rippling muscles and commit them to memory.
He slowly backed her into the corner, thrusting his abdomen into hers, both relieving and intensifying the burning need in his cock as their bodies rubbed together.
She devoured his mouth with hungry kisses, sucking his tongue into her mouth in imitation, suggesting what she would do with his cock later. Her hands cupped his ass, roughly kneading his soft cheeks.
His cock throbbed, aching to be touched. The gentle press against her body was an unbearable tease, and he wanted—needed—to be inside of her. “I’m not sure I can wait to get you into the room.”
She moaned as he uttered the words. Her hands left his ass, finding their way under his tight shirt.
Her touch was like fire to his cool skin. Every gentle caress was filled with delectable heat, sending pulses of animalistic need shooting straight down to his engorged cock. Dante groaned in both pleasure and frustration. If it weren’t for the ding that signaled they had reached their floor, he might have pushed her to the ground and taken her right there.
She snaked out from his caging arms like a wildcat escaping a snare as the elevator doors opened. “C’mon. This way, big boy.” Sasha giggled and gave a little seductive wink before sashaying out into the hallway.
He couldn’t have picked a more alluring woman to share the evening with. She was pure feminine beauty. The tight leather pants hugged every curve, leaving nothing to the imagination. Thoughts of bending her over the bed resurfaced again. He saw himself pinning her against the mattress, plunging deeply into her body as he took his fill of her blood. His self-control was at the edge of its limits. He imagined the sweet essence of her blood filling him as her body tightened and clenched, milking him with her climax.
Dante’s eyes swayed with the motion of her luscious, curvy hips, and he fell into an almost hypnotic trance, lumbering behind her as if an invisible leash was pulling him. His pants rubbed roughly against his throbbing erection, making every step a luscious mixture of pleasure and pain.
He knew he shouldn’t have allowed her to tease him so much. He was so close to losing control. She had already proven to be an interesting and difficult conquest, considering he wasn’t allowed his normal supernatural methods, but he did enjoy this challenge: playing the game, using his charms, making her request his presence. Still, the price was high. He’d allowed his inner monster lie in wait for far too long. He wanted her blood… now.
He fought with the need, the persistent nagging in the back of his mind, and the empty feeling in his stomach. He was not uncivilized; she deserved pleasure for the sacrifice she would make to him by giving some of her blood. He needed to hold back, if only just a little longer.
Sasha fumbled with the key card at the hotel room door. Her long black ponytail swayed behind her as she moved, drawing focus to her long, sumptuous neck.
Dante bent his head and kissed the tender flesh. He felt the gentle thrum of her excited pulse. He allowed his teeth to scrape gently over her skin.
She sighed and leaned her head back into his body, arching her neck to give him better access. “Do it,” she whispered.
How can I refuse? “Maybe just a taste.” He lapped at her neck with his tongue before sinking his teeth in to the soft, warm flesh.
Sasha whimpered softly, and her body stiffened for a brief moment before she melted against him.
Her blood flowed hot and sweet into his mouth, tasting far better than he imagined.
He savored each sweet note of its flavor: vanilla, sugar, and honey with a hint of spice. His arm snaked around her perfect torso. He cupped one of her ample breasts in his hands. His other hand caressed down her leg, gently squeezing her inner thigh.
She cooed softly, and her hand fell limp from the door.
Dante gently caressed the bite with his tongue, stemming the flow of her blood while closing the wound. All that would remain were small dots, tiny bruises.
She hummed serenely, still leaning against his body.
Dante kissed at the tender skin, still caressing her breast with his large hands. “You taste so sweet,” he whispered in her ear before pulling away. His bloodlust slaked for the moment, he could now concentrate on the other needs demanding attention.
Sasha shook herself, appearing to regain her strength. She unlocked and opened the door then turned, grabbing his hand to pull him inside. “There is more where that came from.”
Dante stalked in after her and allowed the door to swing shut behind him.
Sasha fixed him with a stare that would rival that of the hungriest lioness. Clearly, his advance had awakened something primal in her. She licked her lips seductively. “Now, about that fantasy you wanted to share with me...”
“Ah yes, my fantasy.” Dante sucked in a breath, drinking in the sight of the sexy woman standing in front of him, ready to please. “Let me just say that I am used to people doing exactly as I say.”
He caught the shiver, the tensing of her muscles in response to his words. He knew he excited her; he’d seen it from the start. The response to his overpowering demeanor from the moment they met told him a strong, alpha male aroused her. It made her wet and ready and sent butterflies buzzing around her stomach.
“If necessary, I can bend someone to my will. However, tonight, I want you, Sasha, to give yourself to me, completely of your own free will. I want you to allow me total control to do with you as I please.”

After Saloman joins forces with the vampire hunters to consolidate his power, Elizabeth begins to understand her role in the inevitable collision of the two worlds. She could bring resolution between vampires and humans—if she can manage to stay alive long enough to play both sides….

Excerpt from Blood Eternal:  Book 1
Set up: An Ancient vampire, believed to be Saloman’s newly awakened cousin Luk, has gone on the rampage in the Turkish hills. Elizabeth Silk is helping the hunters to track Luk and his allies…
Luk began to run, and as his limbs stretched out, he remembered their strength and what they could do. A surge of excitement urged him to speed up, to run around the entire world and never stop. But her scent was close and sweet, and as he leapt down the final fifty feet to land right in front of her, he grew dizzy.
Startled, the woman fell back, her dark hazel eyes huge in her beautiful face. Hair the color of a long-forgotten sunrise whipped against her soft cheeks in the breeze. Blood pumped through her delicate veins. The sound and smell of it drove him to new hunger, but this was one human he’d never kill.
“Tsigana,” he whispered.
The name held Elizabeth frozen. She’d had an instant’s warning from the Ancient detector, which suddenly, after indicating his slow plod away from her, went nuts, the readings obviously failing to keep up with the speed of the vampire who leapt out in front of her a bare instant after she’d known he would.
She’d had time to press her buzzer, at the same moment it had gone off in warning. The others knew. So she backed off, giving them time to get here, holding the stake poised for the vampire’s attack that didn’t come. He stood unmoving, staring at her.
The ordinary vampire detector in her pocket was still and silent. So the Ancient was alone. She prepared to attack, targeting the spot in his chest that she needed, but before she could fly at him, he said, “Tsigana.”
If he’d said her own name, if he’d called her Jane or Esmeralda or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she wouldn’t have hesitated in the slightest. But he said Tsigana, as if he’d seen straight to her one weakness, a jealousy that amounted almost to fear of the long-dead human woman who had once held Saloman’s heart.
Her fingers curled convulsively on the stake, altering its aim by accident, and she had to readjust it. The Ancient who was Saloman’s cousin, his onetime friend and his betrayer, one of Tsigana’s three vampire lovers, continued to stare at her. She had the impression that if he breathed he’d have been panting, but weirdly, she sensed no threat from him. He lifted his arms slowly,
reaching out to her with intense, weirdly unfocused longing. Understanding slammed into her like a blow.
“I’m not Tsigana,” she said between her teeth. “I’m Elizabeth, the Awakener.” And she flew at him, aware her aim was true. She summoned every ounce of strength, every ounce of power she believed in. Because she didn’t know how long the hunters would take to get here, she had to try to do it alone, as she’d once tried to kill Saloman alone. She still believed she could have slain him, using her power as his Awakener, but she’d never found out for sure, because her heart, not her body, had prevented it. There was no such prevention here; Luk was the cause of most of the unbearable pain that had haunted Saloman for centuries. He was as good as dead, and she couldn’t even regret her lack of compassion.
But he didn’t wait for her. He leapt back so fast she didn’t even see him move. Her stake sliced through air, almost overbalancing her.
“Not Tsigana,” Luk repeated. He sniffed the air.
“Tsigana is dead.” Again she leapt, this time before she finished speaking, but again he evaded her. A howl rent the air, like a dog or a wolf in agony. It had to be coming from Luk, as his distant figure leapt back up the hillside at impossible speed, the bloodcurdling wail fading with him into the night. Not because he’d stopped crying, but because he was too far away to be heard.
“Shit,” Elizabeth whispered. With shaking hand she retrieved the Ancient detector from her pocket. The pointer indicated the hill up which Luk had vanished, the display counting madly as the distance increased. Then it went dead. Elizabeth delved for her phone, just as the needle swung rapidly several degrees to the west, and the display galloped forward.
Oh, hell, he’s doubling back. He’s gotten over Tsigana and now I’m dinner.

Blood Sin

Months after her dangerous encounter with vampire overlord Saloman, Scottish academic Elizabeth Silk is still trying to cope with both the demands of her ancestral bloodline—which marks her as a vampire hunter — and the overpowering desire she feels for the immortal she brought back from the grave. The Real Dracula! Guest Post By Marie Treanor

As we approach Halloween, how many children (or adults!) are planning to dress up as Count Dracula? The very name inspires a delicious shiver of fear, and speaking as a long time vampire fan, I'm all for people dressing up as the undead Count :). But who was the original owner of the name, and why are we still so obsessed with him?

Well, we know that Bram Stoker took the name of his most enduring villain, Count Dracula, together with some of his heroic history, from the fifteenth century prince, Vlad Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler. So, in honour of Halloween, I've gathered a few FAQs about the real Dracula!

1. Was he a vampire?

No! He was the ruling prince of Wallachia, now part of modern Romania. Bram Stoker took his nickname and some of his history for his own creation, Count Dracula. Before then, no one had ever accused him of vampirism!

2. When was he born and when did he die?

He was born around 1431, and died in 1476.

3. Did he really have a connection with Transylvania?

Yes. Although it belonged to Hungary at the time, the princes of Wallachia traditionally owned several towns there. However, he was never ruler of Transylvania.

4. When did he rule?

He had three turbulent reigns: the first in 1448 when he was a teenager - with Turkish help, he seized the throne and lost it again within weeks. In 1556, he returned, killed the previous incumbent who was responsible for the murder of his father and brother, and ruled until the Ottoman invasion of 1462 replaced him with his younger brother, an Ottoman puppet. His final reign was in 1476, until he was killed within months by a rival claimant to the throne.

5. Why was he given the nickname, Dracula?

"Dracul" can mean "Devil" in Romanian, and some say he earned the title through the atrocities he committed. However "dracul" can also mean "dragon"; so Vlad's nickname is more probably to do with the chivalric Order of the Dragon bestowed by the Holy Roman Emperor on his father (also a Vlad) who was thereafter known as Vlad Dracul.  Young Vlad also received the honour and was known as Vlad Dracula, Son of the Dragon. It was clearly a name he was proud of since he signed several documents “Vlad Dracula”.

6. Why was he called the Imapler?

This was a nickname given him by the Turks, "Lord Impaler" because of his penchant for this form of punishment. The worst case in terms of numbers was when he displayed a "forest" of the impaled" outside his capital city of Tirgoviste, which scared the Sultan's invading army into retreat.

Impalement, vile as it is, was not a particularly rare form of execution in this period or in this area, being practiced by both Christians and Ottomans.

7. Was he the cruel, psychotic tyrant of legend?

According to many pamphlets and books of the time, yes he was. But according to the folk memory of his own people, he was a hero who defended his country from Turkish invasion, and prevented the Sultan's forces stealing Wallachian children to become janissaries.

In fact, the worst of the horror stories - which are clearly exaggerated as to numbers if nothing else - came from the German towns of Transylvania which rebelled against him and paid the price, and from the Hungarians who imprisoned him on false charges for twelve years.

So... a gentle man? Probably not!

A tyrant? Probably! It was more or less expected of princes of the period, but he always ruled with the agreement of his "boyars" (noblemen).

Cruel and psychotic? I doubt he was crueler than other rulers of a period when Machiavelli advised that it was better for a prince to be feared than loved. He seems to have been rigid and strict in dispensing justice, but a psycho hell-bent on torture and killing at the expense of the prosperity of his country? It doesn't fit with the way the people rallied to him to fight the Turks, and helped him escape when the war was lost. Or with the fact that no one assassinated him when he was at his weakest. Like the real king Macbeth in Scotland, I very much doubt that Vlad Dracula was a hated man in his own country.

So, who would you prefer to run into on a dark Halloween night? Vlad Dracula the prince, or Stoker's vampire? Just askin’. :)

My Thoughts:
I have to say, the more I blog the more surprised I seem to get with each book I read.  I really lived a very sheltered life within my world of books, I usually didn't go outside of my favorite authors and was quite happy to stay there, and then one day I finished the book I was reading and went to my shelf to get another and low and behold every obsessed readers nightmare.........my shelf was empty lol.  I didn't have anymore books to read. So I said to myself "Away to the Internet to see if one of my favorite authors has released anything new for me to buy".  So off I go to the Sony ebook store and found some good books and happened to look at one of the reviews, which took me to the Goodreads website, which got me talking to some bloggers which brought me to having my own blog, which totally got me reading way outside of anything I usually read.

I have to say I have never been so happy. I would not have had the absolute privilege of a lot of very amazing authors.  So here I am blogging as part of a book tour for Bewitching Book Tours and again I have found another amazing series that I am proud to recommend.  So now that I have babbled on about my journey to this point lol (sorry lol) I will share my thoughts on this wonderful series.

Since I have read all three books, I am going to review as a whole set instead of individually :)
So to start with, we have two main characters which absolutely drew me right into their story, you can the pull and attraction they are fighting, especially since they are meant to kill each other. Marie does an incredible job at making you FEEL the attraction they have for each other. In the second book you see Saloman and him being so stubborn in not sharing his feelings for Elizabeth, and she keeps denying him, but also her loyalty of her feeling for Saloman, and so it carries on to the third book as Elizabeth gets somewhat obsessed with Saloman.  It truly is a great love story you wont want to miss out on.

All three books are superbly well written, I was hooked from book one and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to get to book two, well if I wasn't hooked from the first book I was with the second and on to book three I went, I love Marie's writing style, it just flows so smoothly, she takes you right into their worlds with such description I almost felt like I was right there.  The whole story is such a refreshing new story line and so exciting from page one to the end and into the next book and then the third, my advice is to make sure you have all three books when you start reading or you will find your self at the book store minutes before it closes to get the next one.

Now if I say anymore I will be giving away and spoil the story for you all and we all know how much I hate doing that to anyone, so I will be finished now and just say, go to the store now or online and order your set of this amazing series, I cannot wait for the next book.  Enjoy everyone, I know I did. :)
